Kalafong – Hospital of horrors.

In an outreach effort, “Angels at work” (Magda Stroebel) accompanied by Jacques Mare (The Afrikaner Journal) visited Annelies Koekemoer in the Kalafong Hospital.

This happened after she had sent an emergency facebook message via Hendrik du Plessis to the facebook page of the welfare organization.
The putrid stench of rotting flesh was overwhelming as it  permeated the air of the septic ward – on our arrival.
The ward holds 12 beds – all occupied.
The three white Afrikaans women seem to have been stuck,  in the farthest corner of the ward. We found her bed right in the corner, next to the window.

The lack of fresh air accentuated the smell of decay.
Annelies says that she had hurt her leg in a farming accident in December last year. Since then she’s had to endure the maltreatment and neglect at the hands of the staff at Kalafong.
She claims that because of this maltreatment her wounds, at one stage contained live maggots eating away at the rot in her leg. She says the nurses don’t change the dressings, sometimes – not for weeks.

They all show signs of malnutrition, and all three of them complain that the staff of this hospital, is not feeding them regular meals. They claim, that they sometimes don’t get fed for days.
In the meantime, she says she’s managed to get hold of her attorney and after threats of legal action, she’d finally seen some action today, in the form of an antibiotic administered and, the results of her blood tests delivered.
She is currently applying for an emergency court order, that will force this government hospital to transfer her to a private clinic for treatment, at their cost.

She is thanking everybody, who was kind enough to care, for your thoughts and prayers. She is in need of basic toiletries and some reading material will also be very welcome.
She says that it’s a battle to prevent the staff from stealing her personal belongings and that – at one point all her bedding, pillows and other personal effects were stolen, by the  very people employed to look after her well-being.
Anybody who’d like to visit her, may do so between 15:00-16:00 in the afternoon or between 18:00-19:00 in the evening.
Additional to the above, please notify your local councilor, pastor or political party representative in your area, or – you can help by posting this note everywhere on facebook, or forward it to everybody and anybody, that you think may be able to help these poor women.
